Patient Preparation

Many medical imaging scans require no preparation at all.  To ensure the best quality images and accurate results, please follow the relevant preparation instructions for the following scan types:

Abdominal Ultrasound:

  • Please fast for at least 6 hours before your appointment (this includes smoking)

Pelvic, Renal and Obstetric Ultrasound (up to 28 weeks):

  • A full bladder is required for optimal imaging. Please drink between 500mL - 1L of fluid and finish this 45 minutes before your appointment.

Bone Density Scan:

  • Wear loose-fitting, comfortable clothing.

  • Avoid metal or plastic buttons, zippers, or accessories that may interfere with the results.

CT Scan with Contrast:

  • Fasting for at least 4 hours before your appointment is necessary.

MRI Scan:

  • Please remove all metal objects, jewellry, watches, and accessories before your scan, as metal can interfere with the imaging.

You will be fully informed of any preparation that you need to follow at the time of booking your scan.  If you have any questions or concerns about your preparation, please discuss with one of our friendly reception staff.

Patients holding a current Pension Card, Health Care Card or Commonwealth Seniors Health Care Card will be bulk billed for all Medicare rebatable scans (with the exception of some obstetric scans).

Private Patients:

We ask that full payment of your account is made at the time of your examination whenever possible. If this is not feasible, please speak with our staff before your scan to discuss alternative arrangements.

Payments can be made using cash, EFTPOS, or credit card.  Please feel free to call our reception staff and request a quote when booking your appointment.
